Monitor & Control
Off-Grid Power Systems

Ferntech provides Off-Grid Power System operators & integrators the technology to keep their units up & running during their entire lifespan by offering a platform where they can integrate any technology or manufacturer to their system.

Our solution allows a central controller interconnectivity to all components of the system.
All the collected data is then stored on an online server for analysis, visualisation and reporting.

By gathering this data onto a single platform, we provide a detailed report of the whole system, as well as remote management and configuration.

Current solutions for monitoring and control

The off-grid industry is engaged to solve various problems ranging from the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy to ensuring a reliable power supply of electricity to remote locations. To accomplish these goals, millions of Off-Grid power systems are being deployed in the next decades, and these systems are a complex mix of different technologies. If not properly maintained, they tend to fail.

Moreover, off-grid power systems today are not ready for this step due to the high versatility of these systems, which typically consist of dozens of different components from different manufacturers. There is currently no way of remotely controlling and connecting these components, i.e. there is a lack of general system management solutions.
In addition, continual technological innovations in off-grid power systems present a significant challenge to operators, who need to constantly adjust their maintenance and management procedures for those changes (eg. transition from lead-acid batteries to lithium storage).

The current solutions for monitoring and control for renewable energy off-grid installations are either prohibitively expensive (e.g. via customized industrial computer (PLC) based solutions) or only suitable for a small number of manufacturer specific systems (e.g.in-house monitoring solution), which do not allow the interconnectivity of all components in the system.
In addition, current systems and algorithms are unable to address the issue of distributed storage. For this reason, power monitoring and control systems have been identified as the key facilitator in renewable energy uptake.
